Rainbow Popcorn Domestication

Rainbow Popcorn Domestication

I must have got really bored one day and decided to grow a corn field. But normal corn is too boring so I decided that I must grow Glass Gem popcorn instead. It is a corn stolen from the native Americans I think, which means it is not ideally suited to our climate.

It is mid summer and the corn is green and healthy and growing very quickly. The weeds are a pain and they keep coming back, but as the corn grows bigger their light gets more and more starved.

Tis mid October and even the smallest corn is fruiting. It has been the driest summer ever and it has had zero water so I'm surprised this one is not even shrivelled in the slightest.

The majority of corns are WAY taller than me!

Harvest time! The yield was not as great as expected, but I have been eating tasty popcorn almost every day for a few months now and so far I have only used a third of it. There was also another second harvest later on, where the few last corns ripened just in time before winter hit. This is not exactly a desirable trait, but I might just plant a few of these next year because maybe longer growing time means the yield is bigger.

Overall, I have gathered the 200 or so largest, roundest, brightest and most delicious looking kernels off the biggest few cobs. These will be used for planting. The hope is that they will all be this big next year, and my glass gem corn will become the most productive crop in existence! Only time will tell though...

The popcorn and blackberry muffins are delicious!
